Course Overview:
The focus and confidence you need in order to be assertive consistently depends on your level of Emotional Intelligence. Assertiveness is a skill regularly referred as a top 10 skill for leaders. Learning to assert yourself at any stage in your career can only ease your climb up the ladder of success at work and in your personal life.
To be assertive means being able to stand up for your own or other people’s rights in a positive way, without being aggressive, or accepting ‘wrong’. Assertive individuals are able to get their point across without upsetting others, or becoming upset. Learn methods on how to work your way to assertiveness at work via this training program which will give you the knowledge and skills you need to make this a part of your everyday life.
Course Objectives:
• Gain an basic understanding of EQ and its effects on us
• Improve your emotional intelligence by working on 3 critical areas in EQ
• Learn to put points across in a way that people know you really mean what you say through effective communication skills
• Speak up for yourself with integrity whilst being calm, clear and courteous
• Command respect and attention especially in difficult situations such as in conflict management

Course Content:
Module 1: 1.0 What is EQ?
– What are the perceptions of EQ
– What it really is and what does it cover?
Module 2: Golemans 5 Domains of EQ
– What are they and how do we tap into them for maximum benefit
– Self awareness- this is where you really take a look inside yourself.
– Self management- a good place to start here, then move on to practicing relaxation.
– Social awareness- be sure and learn about nonverbal communication and basic emotional needs, as you begin to develop a positive view of other people.
– Relationship management- will just focus on the assertiveness training
Module 3: EQ and ME
– A self-assessment on my EQ
– An assertiveness test
Module 4: Communicating Effectively
– Simple assertive techniques to enable you to stand firm under pressure and be taken seriously, ‘what I want and what I don’t want’
– Learn and use assertive language
– Empathy and listening techniques
